Tent Basics

When planning an outdoor event, it’s important to consider renting a tent. Tents can provide shelter from the rain, provide shade for your guests, and can add to the look and feel of your event.

There are two main types of rental tents; there is the frame tent and the pole tent.

Pole tents require at least one center pole to support the tent. These tents have poles around the perimeter with ropes that connect the tent skin to the ground.

Frame tents are built using aluminum poles which connect together to create a frame for the tent to go on. When staked into the ground, frame tents are the most secure tent rental option. Frame tents do not require center poles, so there is nothing to obstruct or interfere with your décor. Because of this, all BRAVO! tents are frame tents.

Within our frame tents, we have three styles of tents:

  • High Peak
  • Hip
  • Gable

The High Peak style is only available on our smaller tents: 10’x10’, 15’x15’, 20’x20’, and 20’x40’

20'x20' High Peak Tent

Hip tents have a sloped roof with all four sides coming together in the center.

Gable tents have sides which are flat and 40’ wide. From the gable end, tent sections are added in 15’ increments. So, you could have a 40’x15’, 40’x30’, 40’x45’ and so forth. Though, a 40’x15’ would look a little strange.

We also offer band shell tents, which are used to cover a stage and performance.

Tent Accessories:

Leg Covers: Fabric that drapes around the poles to cover the legs of the tent.

Side Walls: Walls with or without windows which are used to enclose the tent. They are perfect for colder weather, and can be seen in the picture of the gable tent.

Tent Liners: Fabric that is draped from the ceiling to cover the frame of the tent. This adds an elegant and soft look to your tent.

Before looking into tents, come prepared. A few things you will be asked:

  • How many guests?
  • What all is going under the tent? Chairs, tables, dance floor
  • Do you need a stage for a band or DJ?
  • Will you need lighting and/or climate control ex: heaters, fans, AC?

Knowing the answers to these questions will make your tent planning experience go much smoother.

Preparation & Planning

Taking Time Today
Will Reduce Stress Tomorrow

Seashell inspired table setting

Events can be stressful.

  • Weddings
  • Birthdays
  • Parties
  • Dinners

There are many details to pay attention to. There’s the guest list, the venue, the food. Do you have a theme? How does that play into the decorations? Is there too much or too little?

So how do you handle planning everything?

Give yourself some time and ask for help.

The best thing you can do is to begin planning early. As soon as you have determined the number of guests and the date, start planning. I suggest hiring an event planner. However if this is something you would rather do on your own, do your research and recruit friends and family to help. You don’t have to do everything on your own.

Ensure you have enough time to get everything accomplished. If you try to do too much too quickly, your event will become very stressful. It is also easy to overlook things when you don’t give yourself enough time.

Use a checklist

There are a lot of things to remember when planning an event. Having a checklist will help ensure you don’t miss something. If you are planning a wedding, The Knot has a great checklist that is interactive and customizable for your wedding date. You can find that here.

Take a break

Remember your life does not revolve around this one event. Take a break; do something completely unrelated to event planning.

On this season of My Fair Wedding (one of my favorite shows,) David Tutera has taken each of his brides on a non-wedding related adventure a few days before the wedding. They went on roller coasters, hot air balloons, and rock climbing, and it is a great idea. Do something you enjoy, something exciting to get your mind off the planning. Stop worrying and just enjoy yourself. That’s what parties are for anyways. Remember that!
